GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A murder suspect, illegal marijuana and stolen goods were all found during raids on Grand Rapids businesses last week.

Search warrants were executed Thursday by GRPD at Flavors on Leonard St NW, Flavors Smoke Shop on Division Ave. S, and PMC Private Stock also on Division Ave. S.

GRPD says that they had been investigating the properties for months, but sped up issuing the search warrants due to the triple homicide in the Burton Heights area and an unrelated tip that a Milwaukee homicide suspect frequented the locations.

During the raids on the businesses, GRPD arrested the homicide suspect, who was identified as Julian Kelley.

Police say they also found "over 30 pounds of bulk marijuana and hundreds of retail size packages of marijuana buds, THC vape cartridges, and THC infused edibles were recovered, along with stolen property."

The businesses were not legally licensed to sell marijuana and police say that some of the recovered THC products were consistent with ones stolen from dispensaries.

“We are gratified to assist our counterparts in Milwaukee in bringing justice for their murder victim’s family,” said Chief Eric Winstrom. “Even more so that the raids resulted in evidence of criminal activity that directly impacts us here in Grand Rapids, in our community. I am hopeful that when all the evidence and all the leads are followed, we will be able to make more arrests. This was excellent work by our detectives and local law enforcement partners.”

GRPD says they are continuing to investigate suspected connections to other criminal activity in the area, including car thefts, smash and grab burglaries, and the illegal sale of marijuana.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the GRPD detective unit at (616) 456-3380 or through Silent Observer at (616) 774-2345 or online at SilentObserver.org.
