WALKER, Mich. — The Walker Police Department took a man into custody Thursday night after a helicopter search found him stuck in a marsh.
Earlier in the evening Walker PD officers had responded to a report of a man who had stolen items from the Standale Meijer and fled on foot.
Officers had searched the area but could not locate the man. Three hours later, a woman who lives near the Meijer called the police saying she heard a man screaming for help in a marshy area near her home.
Walker officers responded to search the area with assistance from a Michigan State Police helicopter. The helicopter quickly located the man who was stuck in the marsh.
Officers on the ground made their way to the man with assistance from the helicopter and they identified him as the suspect in the earlier theft.
The 31-year-old man from Middleville was taken into custody for the theft. The Walker Police Department said he stole merchandise valued at over $2,700. The man was brought to the hospital due to cold exposure.
