NEWAYGO COUNTY, Mich. — The Big Rapids police officer facing two criminal sexual conduct charges is accused of contacting the victim's mother despite a judge's order not to.
Ryan Dornbos is accused of sexually abusing a young family member between the years of 2018 and 2023 while he worked as a police officer for the City of Newaygo and in Big Rapids.
13 ON YOUR SIDE previously reported Dornbos is also facing an aggravated stalking charge from a separate incident back in May.
13 ON YOUR SIDE obtained a court transcript of a hearing that laid out evidence for the aggravated stalking charge.
A Fremont Police Department detective told the judge he believed Dornbos texted the victim's mother using a new phone number.
Dornbos denied the accusation.
The judge agreed to the new warrant for the aggravated stalking charge and set the bond at $10,000.
Dornbos was in court earlier this month, ahead of the criminal trial. During the proceedings, Dornbos' attorney asked the court to limit the media's access to the case and disqualify the judge. Both of those requests were denied.
Also during the proceedings, it was announced that six witnesses are expected to take the stand.
The Newaygo County Prosecutor's Office asked Kent County Prosecutor Christopher Becker to prosecute the case due to a conflict of interest.
Dornbos turned himself in to police in Fremont in March.
