West Michigan high school teacher facing charges after alleged 'improper touching' of a student

GRANDVILLE, Mich. — A 57-year-old teacher at Calvin Christian High School is facing two criminal sexual conduct charges stemming from an incident with a student earlier this week.

Michael Hoekwater was arrested by the Grandville Police Department Thursday after receiving a report of improper touching between a teacher and student.

Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker authorized the charges of two counts of criminal sexual conduct 4th degree against Hoekwater.

Hoekwater was arraigned on the charges Friday and is scheduled to appear back in court on Monday, July 1 at 1:30 p.m.
