CEDAR SPRINGS, Mich. — A Cedar Springs Public Schools employee was arrested Tuesday and is now facing child pornography charges, the district said in a letter to families.
The district alerted parents to the arrest in the letter, claiming the employee did not work directly with students. The letter also said that they have "no indication that any of our students were involved."
The district said the suspect is facing a charge of possession of child sexually abusive material and a charge of using a computer to commit a crime.
The employee was given notice that he was being investigated on Aug. 26, and the district said "he was immediately placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the Kent County Sheriff's Office investigation."
The district said that the investigation took weeks to complete and resulted in the arrest of the suspect. The district is awaiting a copy of the police report, the letter said.
The suspect was not identified, but the Kent County Sheriff's Office said he is a 35-year-old Greenville man. What job he held and what building he worked in was also not shared.
The letter included resources for students and their families:
