WHITE CLOUD, Mich. (WZZM) -- Newaygo cold case investigators spent nearly 25 years trying to bring closure to the murder of Shannon Siders.
Police finally arrested two suspects, brothers Paul and Matthew Jones, Tuesday and charged each with first degree murder.
WZZM 13 was able to obtain the probable cause affidavit, which details the evidence investigators have against the Jones brothers.
Matthew Jones, 44, of Grant and Paul Jones, 42, of Newaygo, have told people conflicting stories about what happened the night Sider's was murdered, according to documents.
The documents read, "Investigators were able to determine that Shannon Siders on July 17th (1989), had met up with Norm Shelds, Billie Shields, Clint Guthrie, Ricky Gomez, Michelle Burns, Darrin Sackett, Paul and Matt Jones. On July 18th (1989), at 1:30 a.m., a witness reported that Shannon stopped by her house to pick up a cassette tape. Also on July 18th, Shannon was last seen riding with Matt and Paul Jones, leaving the Grant area, headed toward Newaygo."
A witness also reported that they saw the Jones vehicle turning eastbound on 88th from M-37, which is the direction which Shannon's body was recovered, the documents read
Paul Jones, Matt Jones and Shannon Siders were in the vehicle at the time, according to the documents.
Two more witnesses told investigators they came across Paul and Matthew Jones not far from the area where Shannon's body was located. Just prior to daylight on July 18th, the same two witnesses came across the same vehicle being driven by Paul Jones, and was occupied by Paul and Matt Jones on a two-track, documents read.
As the witnesses approached, they could see a female laying on the ground and Paul Jones standing over the limp body of Shannon Siders, documents read.
Over the years, Paul Jones has made various statements, indicating that he ran her over, documents say.
Another witness account is the Jones brothers were overheard talking to another individual and said they hit her with a mirror and then began to beat and rape her, documents say.
The documents also detailed more conflicting witness reports detailing the Jones brothers involvement in the murder.
During Monday's probable cause hearing, Detective Scott Rios told the magistrate that in the last three years, Matt Jones has changed residence at least three times during the course of the investigation.
Investigators also learned that there were unreported sexual assault incidents in 1989 with Matt Jones, documents say.
Paul Jones moved out of the Newaygo area after Shannon's body was found. He later moved back to Newaygo and spent time in prison for home invasion.
Investigators also told the court that during the course of the home invasion, Paul Jones had a "rape kit" with him, which included duct tape, condoms, vaseline, and a stun gun.
Paul Jones has also lived at multiple addresses since being released from prison in 2011, including spending time in Texas in 2012.
Paul and Matthew Jones are expected to be back in the 78th Judicial District Court of Newaygo Friday at 1:30 pm for their preliminary hearing.
