ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. — The Allegan County Sheriff's Office said that Monday morning around 11:25 a.m., dispatch received a call about a crash on M-40 Hwy near 127th Ave in Heath Twp, Allegan County.
Deputies arrived on scene to find two vehicles rolled over into the ditch.
Deputies and first responders assisted the occupants in both vehicles out of their cars and got them to medical personnel.
The Sheriff's Office said they believe that a Subaru being driven by a 32-year-old man from the Allegan area was going North on M-40 Hwy when the driver rear-ended a vehicle near 125th Ave.
Police said the driver of the Subaru fled the scene, continuing North on M-40 Hwy, passing several vehicles and semi-trucks. Police believe he was driving at a high rate of speed when he then rear ended a second vehicle, a Toyota Camry, near 127th Ave.
Both vehicles lost control and overturned as a result of the impact in the second crash. The victim driver in the first crash had no injuries according to police. All those involved in the second crash were transported to a nearby hospital for their injuries which police say were not life threatening.
The Sheriff's Office said they believe both speed and alcohol were factors in this incident, however they are still investigating. M-40 Hwy was shutdown briefly after the incident but reopened soon after.
