GRPD perform 'high-risk traffic stop' after man allegedly flashes gun at another driver

GRPD says that officers arrested a suspect who had allegedly brandished a firearm at another driver.

GRAND RAPIDS, MB — A man was taken into custody in Grand Rapids Thursday evening after allegedly pulling out a gun and showing it to another driver who honked at them.

The Grand Rapids Police Department (GRPD) is calling the incident—which took place near the intersection of Ottawa Avenue NW and Lyons Street NW—a "high-risk traffic stop."

GRPD says that officers arrested the suspect around 7:30 p.m. Thursday after he had allegedly flashed a gun at another driver following a previous incident. The other driver had reportedly honked at the suspect when he didn't turn on a green light at a nearby intersection, police said.

13 ON YOUR SIDE viewer Whitney Samuels caught part of the arrest on camera which shows the suspect with his hands behind his head walking away from his vehicle as a GRPD officer approaches with a rifle followed by another armed officer with a flashlight.

GRPD said a firearm was located with the suspect at the time of the arrest. The arrest was conducted without incident.

Authorities have not said if the suspect has been charged with anything or if he was released from custody.
