KENT CITY, Mich. - The former director of Howard Christensen Nature Center was sentenced Tuesday for embezzling funds from the northern Kent County facility.
David Kieft was placed on probation for three years and ordered to pay $4,000 in restitution. He was also given a delayed jail sentence and ordered to serve 200 hours on a work crew.
Kieft earlier pleaded no contest to an embezzlement charge.
Financial problems were discovered after he resigned as the nature center's director last August. Board members say the embezzlement has threatened the future of the nature center.
