KENT COUNTY, Mich. — A teacher in the North Public School District is accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl over two decades ago.
The Cannon Township man, 51, is charged with two counts of criminal sexual conduct first degree. Kent County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) deputies arrested the man Monday.
The teacher was teaching up until he was suspended, the Kent County Sheriff's Office said.
The alleged abuse began in 1998 with a 13-year-old female victim and lasted through 2003, KCSO said their investigation revealed. The suspect was in his 20s at the time of the incident.
Investigators say that some of the sexual contact between the victim and the suspect took place on school property.
The suspect is expected to be arraigned at the 63rd District Court.

KCSO did not reveal the suspect's name or share if they were still currently teaching in Kent County.
