Georgia man found guilty of murder in 2023 Holland shooting

HOLLAND, — 54-year-old James Leonard Taylor was found guilty of 2nd Degree Murder and one county of Felony Firearm on Thursday by a jury.

The charges are in connection to the shooting death of 54-year-old Aaron James Barlow from Covert. Taylor is from Georgia.

Following the shooting in Holland, Taylor was accused of leading police on an hours-long chase after running from the scene around 3 a.m. on March 3, 2023.

The shooting took place outside an apartment building in the 1000 block of Abbey Court.

First responders found Barlow inside a car with multiple gunshot wounds, and despite being given medical attention, he died at the scene.

"Holland DPS investigators put in many hours over the past year investigating and working on this case," said the Holland Department of Public Safety. "We would like to express our gratitude to Ottawa County Prosecutor Lee Fisher and Assistant Prosecutor Megan Hurley for guidance and all their work on this case which led to the guilty verdict."

Taylor's sentencing is scheduled for July 22.
