GRPD: Suspect robbed pedestrian before running into nearby home and barricading self

Just before 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday GRPD said the subject was in custody and that nobody was injured.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Grand Rapids Police Department (GRPD) responded to the scene of a barricaded subject Tuesday night.

The scene was in the 700 block of 5th St NW. Police said the subject was a suspect in an armed robbery of a pedestrian.

After robbing the pedestrian, the suspect ran into a nearby home. Police said they do not know if the suspect knew the residents of the home, but there were several people inside.

Police said it took time for them to get everyone out of the home and that all people who were inside would be questioned.

Just before 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday GRPD said the suspect was in custody and that nobody was injured.

Neighbors said they watched the situation unfold over the course of a few hours as there was a heavy police presence.
