GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — One person is in custody after allegedly robbing a pedestrian and then barricading themselves inside a home in Grand Rapids.
According to the Grand Rapids Police Department (GRPD), the incident happened around 8 p.m. Tuesday at a home in the 700 block of 5th Street NW.
Police say the suspect robbed a pedestrian, then ran into a nearby home that was occupied at the time. Investigators believe the suspect is connected to the people who live there.
Police said it took about three hours of negotiating to get everyone out of the home. A total of four people came out, and all have been detained for questioning.
Just before 11 p.m. on Tuesday, GRPD said a suspect was in custody. No one was injured.
Neighbors said they watched the situation unfold over the course of a few hours as there was a heavy police presence.
