KENT COUNTY, Mich. — A Cedar Springs man stopped a suspect from breaking into his neighbor's home Tuesday morning, the Kent County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) said.

The incident happened around 9 a.m. on July 23 at a home near Myers Lake Avenue and 20 Mile Road.

Police say that a 68-year-old man saw a man dressed in a hoodie, mask and gloves walking toward his neighbor's driveway.

The man followed the suspect and heard a loud noise before seeing broken glass near his neighbor's garage service door, KCSO said.

The 68-year-old man confronted the suspect who then ran into the woods.

KCSO and a K9 Unit from the Michigan State Police searched the area for the suspect but were unable to locate him.

About an hour later, detectives that were still investigating the incident saw the suspect leave the woods and arrested him.

KCSO says they value "our observant community members for calling them when they observe suspicious activity."

The case is being reviewed by the Kent County Prosecutor.
