Police raid at two Grand Rapids businesses not related to recent homicides

Working with Michigan State Police, SWAT crews and the VICE unit, Grand Rapids Police served two search warrants at two businesses Thursday afternoon.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich — Grand Rapids Police arrested an out-of-state homicide suspect Thursday afternoon.

Numerous GRPD officers, Michigan State Police Troopers, an MSP helicopter, the GRPD VICE unit and a SWAT crew helped serve search warrants just before 3 p.m.

At the Flavors Smoke Shop on Leonard, authorities arrested a person suspected of an out-of-state homicide, Grand Rapids Police said.

Authorities served another search warrant in the 2300 block of Division, where police said they found "contraband and evidence of criminal activity in the area."

One of those businesses is located in the same neighborhood where days earlier, three people were found shot to death.

GRPD Captain Terry Dixon said the police activity Thursday is not related to those homicide investigations.

13 ON YOUR SIDE asked police for additional details about what police were looking for, who was taken into custody and anything further about the raid.

"It's an ongoing investigation that I'm not at liberty to say more," Dixon.

A 13 ON YOUR SIDE crew saw at least two people in handcuffs taken into a police cruiser.

Dixon said several suspects were taken into custody during the raid for unrelated outstanding warrants.

What the police department could say for sure is that the two search warrants served at Grand Rapids businesses were not related to recent killings.
