WALKER, Mich. — A Kent County man facing multiple felony charges after being arrested near a Trump rally in Walker, Michigan is now being ordered to complete a competency hearing.

Steven Nauta, 65, was arraigned in 59th District Court last week on the following charges:

  • Count 1: False Report or Threat of Terrorism MCL:750.543m
  • Count 2: Explosives-Possession of Bombs with Unlawful Intent MCL:750.210
  • Count 3: Police Officer-Fleeing 3rd degree MCL:750.479
  • Count 4: Resulting/Resisting/Obstruct Police Officer MCL: 750.81

Nauta was given a bond of $1 million.

After the arraignment, Nauta was scheduled to have a probable cause conference on Oct. 8, followed by a hearing on Oct. 15.

Now, the Deputy Court Clerk for the 59th District Court told 13 ON YOUR SIDE that Nauta no longer has any hearing dates at the court and the date and time for the preliminary examination is pending the results of a competency hearing.

The clerk did not provide a date for when the competency hearing would take place.

When Nauta was arraigned via a Zoom call, he was acting erratically, showing his middle fingers on camera and later taking off his shirt.

"I'm going to give you this warning one time, and one time only, do not give that double middle finger salute to the camera gain," the judge warned.

The judge also had to cut Nauta off twice when he was asked whether he understood his rights and his bond.
