Authorities say a 51-year-old suburban Detroit man is charged with murder in the 1991 fatal beating of his ex-girlfriend's mother in Midland County after a review of cold cases turned up new evidence.
The Michigan attorney general's office and Midland County authorities say Michael McIntyre of New Hudson was arraigned Friday on felony murder and first-degree premeditated murder charges in the attack on 43-year-old Diane Ross at her home in Lee Township.
McIntyre pleaded not guilty and is getting a court-appointed lawyer.
Investigators say Ross was sleeping in her bed in August 1991 when she was confronted by a masked assailant. She was a double amputee who had no legs.
The sheriff's office says detectives reviewed the case starting in 2012. Recent investigation work found additional witnesses and physical evidence.
