Man heads to trial after allegedly shooting Wyoming gas station employee

If convicted, Niko Rey Mena could spend up to life in prison for a shooting that critically injured a gas station employee.

WYOMING, Mich. — The 21-year-old man accused of shooting a gas station employee in Wyoming multiple times is heading to court.

Niko Rey Mena is facing charges of assault with intent to murder, carrying a concealed weapon and felony firearm.

Mena was bound over to trial following a preliminary examination hearing on Wednesday. He could spend up to life in prison if convicted.

The shooting happened on March 6 around 5:40 p.m. at the Admiral gas station on 32nd Street SW and Division Ave S.

Officers responding to the call found 36-year-old Willis Booker from Grand Rapids suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Police said that Booker was an employee at the gas station.

Police later took Mena into custody. He was 20 years old at the time of the arrest.

Booker was taken to the hospital with severe injuries.
