Kent City man with positive HIV status charged with sex crimes involving young child

According to court documents filed in the case, the victim told investigators the abuse began when she was 5 or 6 years old, and continued until she was 11.

KENT CITY, Mich. — A Kent City man is accused of sexually abusing a child for years, the Kent County Prosecutor's Office says. 

Christopher Michael Haggerty, 30, of Kent City, faces three counts of criminal sexual conduct first degree, one count of criminal sexual conduct second degree and a charge related to having sexual contact while knowing his positive HIV status. 

According to a probable cause document filed in the case, Haggerty has a positive HIV status. 

During a forensic interview with the young child, the victim said the abuse began when the child was as young as 5 or 6 years old, and continued until 11 years old. 

Haggerty's bond was set at $2,000,000.

He's due in court Wednesday for a probable cause conference, and then another hearing later in January.
