4 minutes, 4 thieves, $30,000 in merchandise stolen from Saranac dispensary

Store management say burglars were in the shop for just four minutes and made "a pretty good mess of the place."

SARANAC, Mich. — Ionia County deputies are investigating a robbery at a marijuana dispensary in Saranac.

The Assistant General Manager at Cho told 13 ON YOUR SIDE that around 5:30 Monday morning four people showed up in a Kia.

The group used a crowbar to break in through a back door and enter the shop.

Store management was able to watch surveillance footage of the break-in. They found that the burglars were in the shop for about four minutes.

"Once inside the shop, they kind of went a little crazy with it, made a pretty good mess of the place," said the shop's Assistant General Manager Jared Hawley.

Despite the short amount of time the thieves spent in the shop, store management said they were still able to get away with at least $30,000 in merchandise.

Hawley said that some stores might be able to easily recover from a loss so large because they have multi-billion dollar backers. However, Cho is a smaller "mom and pop" shop, and so the loss of product will be a difficult one for them to recover from.

"They came in very clear and intent with a purpose," said Hawley. "They went right for the products that they were looking for. Like I said, they smashed into the back of these, popped the doors out. They were able to pry into the back and then actually use a crowbar to break into the main storage."

Despite the break-in, the store still opened on Monday.

Hawley said the shop is sending a copy of the surveillance video to the sheriff's office to assist in the investigation and hopefully find the thieves.
