OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. — Three high school students are facing charges after social media posts with threatening messages were discovered online.

Oakland County Prosecutor Karen D. McDonald charged the three South Lyon East High School students on Wednesday.

One of the students was charged with Intentional Threats to Commit Act of Violence Against School, School Employee, or Students and the two others were charged with False Report or Threats of Terrorism.

The allegations stem from three social media posts made on Sept. 8 and later reported to a teacher on Sept. 9.

A screenshot of a post that stated “[G]uys imma shoot up the school tomorrow,” was initially shared and after further investigation, two other posts claimed "I'm going to blow up the school."

The Oakland County Prosecutor said that at least 10 students received the messages.

“Parents and kids should feel safe at school,” stated McDonald. “These threats directly impact students, teachers and staff, and they also undermine our entire community's confidence in the safety of our schools. It’s not a joke, and the charges we issued will ensure that these students face appropriate consequences.”

Oakland County is home to Oxford High School, where a teen gunman killed four students on Nov. 30, 2021.
