GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Troopers are investigating after a body was found on the roadway at southbound US-131 and Leonard late Friday evening, according to the Michigan State Police.
Deputies said troopers were dispatched to the scene around 11:40 p.m. where they discovered a dead woman with apparent gunshot wounds.
A portion of US-131 was closed for several hours during the investigation.
On Sunday, the victim was identified by MSP as a 25-year-old woman from Grand Rapids. Her family identified her as Ruby Garcia on a GoFundMe page.
Michigan State Police say they have a person of interest in custody in this case.
Deputies said this is an active investigation and anyone who witnessed anything suspicious or has any information should contact the MSP Grand Rapids Post at (616) 866-4411 or the Kent County Central Dispatch.
