Niles man suspected in gas station shooting charged with attempted murder, robbery

Law enforcement said the suspect is being held on a $200,000 bond.

NILES, Mich. — Authorities arrested a man suspected in a gas station shooting in Niles on Monday. 

The Berrien County Sheriff's Office said Alonzo Dominic Davis, 39, is suspected in an assault that happened at a Speedway in Niles Township on Monday. 

First responders rushed 44-year-old Dontae Lavon Murphy, also of Niles, to a hospital in South Bend, Indiana for a gunshot wound. He is now recovering at home. 

Davis was also hurt in the ordeal, and taken to an area hospital to get checked out for a non-life-threatening injury. 

On Tuesday, Davis was arraigned in district court on the following felony charges: 

  • Assault with intent to murder
  • Unarmed robbery
  • Felon in possession of a firearm
  • Two counts of felony firearm  

Law enforcement said Davis remains in custody at the Berrien County Sheriff's Office on a $200,000 cash surety bond. 

The case remains under investigation, the sheriff's office said.
