OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. — An Ottawa County man is in jail Thursday after being arrested for the Jan. 1 murder of his girlfriend.
57-year-old Randall Grinwis is accused of killing 63-year-old Donna Hyma. On Jan. 1, around 10:30 p.m., police were called to check on Hyma's wellbeing. They arrived at her Zeeland Township home to find her dead.
The autopsy found that Hyma had died from asphyxiation. Hyma and Grinwis had been living together. However, his whereabouts were unknown.
Detectives continued to investigate and said they determined Grinwis had fled to Las Vegas, Nevada after the murder. Police said he also took items from the home before fleeing.
After obtaining warrants for Open Murder and Larceny, Ottawa County detectives worked with Las Vegas Police to find Grinwis.
Grinwis was taken into custody by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police on Feb. 9. On Thursday, Feb. 22 he was extradited to Ottawa County and arraigned.
His bond was denied and he remains in jail.
Hyma's murder is still being investigated. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office.
