IONIA COUNTY, Mich — A woman is dead following a police chase that spanned three counties, ending in a fatal crash Sunday.

Around 4:15 p.m. on Sunday, the Ionia County Sheriff's Office responded to the Ionia Wal-Mart and Menards on the reports of stolen vehicles.

Police determined that five suspects had stolen multiple vehicles between the two locations and later drove away from the area.

The Ionia County Sheriff's Office sent out an area broadcast, alerting other area departments of the stolen cars.

Shortly after, Clinton County Sheriff's deputies located the vehicles and began pursuit.

The second vehicle lost control while driving on Sunfield Hwy. near Bippley Rd. and left the road, striking a tree, police say. A female passenger was killed by the crash. The other people in the car sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Sparrow Hospital.

The names of the suspects are being withheld while an investigation into the incident continues.
