MORE THAN 15 SHOTS | Police investigating 2 Georgetown Township homes hit by gunfire

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office says that the gunfire hit the homes around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. — More than 15 shots were fired into two Ottawa County homes early Tuesday morning, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office (OSCO).

The incident took place around 2:30 a.m. on Suncrest Court in Georgetown Township.

Both homes had people in them at the time of the shooting, including two girls under the age of 18 in one of the homes.

Ottawa County Sheriff Captain Jake Sparks said that no one was hurt, despite some of the bullets hitting the homes.

"Both homeowners of the homes that were struck, were awakened by gunfire. So some of these rounds actually entered into the homes, which is incredibly scary. There were some juvenile females sleeping in one of the homes and an adult couple sleeping in the other home," said Sparks.

OCSO currently has no suspect in the incident and is asking for any information anyone in the area might have.

"If anybody has anything captured on their home surveillance system, we'd encourage them to reach out to sheriff's office detectives and we'll come out there and get that," Sparks said.

Sparks mentioned that investigators believe that the gunfire came from behind the homes and not from the street.

"We're trying to look into that to see. It's still unknown if those homes were specifically targeted, or if somebody was just made some really poor choices last night. So we're trying to figure that out right now," Sparks said.

Due to the time of night and the heavy rainfall that occurred overnight Monday into Tuesday, initial investigation efforts were hampered, OSCO said.

OSCO is working on getting leads and continuing the investigation into the shooting. They believe there is no threat to the public at this time.
