CASS COUNTY, Mich. — An assailant accused in a knife attack that hurt three in Silver Creek Township Thursday night is still on the run.

That's according to Cass County Sheriff Richard Behnke, who said the altercation happened around 10:40 p.m. at a home in the 32000 block of School Street.

Deputies are searching for 28-year-old John Henry Coons, from the Dowagiac area. He has a three-count warrant for his arrest for assault with intent to murder.

Deputies found three people who had multiple stab wounds from a single assailant, the sheriff said.

Charles Coulson, 73, was critically wounded in the attack. Shirley Couson, 75, was also hurt and was last reported to be stable at a hospital.

The 31-year-old suffered injuries but didn't need to go to the hospital, deputies said.

Authorities said Coons left the home before deputies arrived and remains on the loose Friday.

Sheriff Behnke previously said this was a "focused incident," and there is "no threat to the community."

Now Sheriff Behnke said Coons should be considered "armed and dangerous," and is asking for help tracking him down.

If you spot him, call the Cass County Sheriff’s Office at 269-445-8644 or the Cass County Tip line at 1-800-462-9328.

The Pokagon Tribal Police and Dowagiac Police also helped out with the investigation.
