KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A shooting near an elementary school in Kalamazoo put it into lockdown for a short time on Tuesday. No students were injured.
Spring Valley Elementary was put into lockdown shortly after 11:45 a.m. Tuesday after police responded to a report of shots fired nearby.
Officers from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) responded to the call in the 3500 block of Mount Olivet Road. The report said someone had shot into the home.
Police say that when they arrived at the home, they ordered everyone to leave and in about 20 minutes, the home was cleared and the suspect was in custody.
Because of the call, the elementary school went into lockdown, which was lifted after the crime scene was cleared by police.
No one was injured in the incident and police are continuing to investigate.
The suspect was arrested on multiple charges, including: Assault with intendent to murder, home invasion and several weapons charges.
The suspect will be arraigned Thursday, March 21.
