Opening statements and testimony began today in the trial of an Ada teenager accused of killing a man during a road rage incident.
The trial of Christian Hillman, 18, started Tuesday, June 27, with testimony from his friend who was riding dirt bikes with Hillman before the alleged beating took place. Hillman faces murder charges for killing 64-year-old William McFarlan in September 2016.
Hillman was on a dirt bike on Whitneyville Road in Cascade Township the night of the incident. His friend, Noah Bulkowski, testified the two were out spray painting bridges. Then, some type of confrontation started between Hillman and McFarlan.
Bulkowski testified that he did not see the beginning of that confrontation because he had lost his hat while riding the bikes. So, he went to find the hat and got separated from Hillman. Bulkowski said he called Hillman to ask where to find him and at that point Hillman said something about a man being unconscious.
Bulkowski says by the time he got back to Hillman and McFarlan in a parking lot, Hillman was standing over McFarlan.
Hillman previously said he defended himself when McFarlan grabbed his neck. Police previously said they were uncertain how the confrontation started.
A passerby testified this morning that he saw Hillman kick McFarlan three times while he was on the ground. That witness testified that he passed by and then turned around to make sure someone called 911.
