String of vehicle break-ins leaves Wyoming residents frustrated

Almost a dozen vehicles were broken into over the weekend.

WYOMING, Mich. — A string of vehicle break-ins in Wyoming has left several residents upset and frustrated.

Sarah Kim, a resident in Wyoming, says she was getting ready to leave for a date with her husband when she noticed her car was broken into.

"My husband and I were actually going out to Valentine's Day, I kind of was like a later in the week thing. And then I like looked and I was like, 'why is my back window gone?' So, to be honest, it was just such a shock. And frustrating, too,” said Kim.

She wasn’t the only one, as two other cars were broken into at her apartment complex and several other cars were also hit in neighborhoods nearby.

Remie Gasirabo, owner of Flyyer Population Creative Studio, provided a video to 13 ON YOUR SIDE, which shows the moment he found his car broken into before he had to go to work.

Not only frustrated, he says he missed out on money from not being able to work that day. Designer sunglasses and money were stolen from his car.

Kim says she's shocked that her car was hit because of how lit her parking lot is.

"We have like really good street lighting. And then we've got the lighting in the carports. So, I always just kind of imagined they'd be pretty secure,” said Kim.

Luckily for her, she was able to repair her back window and nothing was stolen from her car. She encourages others to think twice about leaving things in your car.

"I would definitely recommend having, like cameras in your vehicle would have been useful that are like motion activated. I would also say, you know, just make sure that there's nothing visible in your vehicle,” said Kim.

The landlord where Kim stays says they are working with police to hopefully find out who did this.

13 ON YOUR SIDE reached out to Wyoming Police. They were unable to provide any details on possible cases. However, we are aware of break-ins at Timber Ridge and Chateau Village apartments on 44th Street and at Parkcrest Apartments on Gezon Parkway.
