GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan — The Grand Rapids Police Department (GRPD) released the identity of a woman shot and killed in the city last week.

One woman was killed and two men were injured in a shooting on Pastiche Drive SE on the evening of Oct. 24.

GRPD identified the woman as Tracey Broyles, aged 55. The Kent County Medical Examiner ruled the death as a homicide following an autopsy.

GRPD Chief Eric Winstrom said the 911 call came in at about 6:50 p.m. reporting a shooting in the 900 block of Pastiche Drive SE.

Broyles was pronounced dead at the scene and the two male victims were taken to a hospital in serious condition. GRPD provided updates on the other two victims, saying that they are recovering from their injuries.

As far as a motive for the shooting, Winstrom said on Friday they don't know that for sure yet. However, witnesses said they heard arguments and "strong words."

"I think when we figure out what the motive is, it's not going to make any sense," he said. "It's certainly going to bring little to no comfort to the family who's out here crying tonight."

Despite not knowing the motive, Winstrom said the shooting does appear to be targeted and not a "random act of violence."

The shooting remains under investigation.
