CALEDONIA, Mich — Caledonia Elementary School is celebrating after taking home a prestigious award in Washington D.C.
The Caledonia Community Schools branch is now the home of a National Blue Ribbon award, an honor presented to schools across the nation for exemplary high performance.
The award was given to just over 350 schools nationwide and recognizes public and private elementary, middle and high schools for overall academic excellence or progress in closing achievement gaps among students groups.
Principal Brent Huck and teachers Becky Foster and Jennifer Harmens were at the ceremony to receive the award.
"For Caledonia Elementary to be recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School is an incredible honor. This achievement reflects the commitment of our teachers, staff, students, and parents to creating an environment of excellence. We wish all of our staff, students, and families could have been there to join in the celebration. To be one of 353 schools recognized for exemplary high performance was a deeply humbling experience," said Huck.
After returning to his office from the ceremony, blue ribbons were plastered all over the wall. It was a 'thank you' from the school's PTO for the positive impact he's made on the school.
The PTO had students write one word that describes their principal on the ribbons, surrounding his office with words of gratitude and admiration.
"Caledonia Elementary's recognition as a National Blue Ribbon School is a direct product of the tremendous efforts of our outstanding students, the devotion of our talented and caring staff, and the exceptional leadership and dedication of Principal Huck," said Interim Superintendent Dirk Weeldreyer, who accompanied the others to the award ceremony.
"This prestigious honor not only validates the great work happening within the walls of Caledonia Elementary but also reflects the many wonderful things happening across the district."
