BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — Ferris State University is increasing some of its scholarship amounts amid delays in FAFSA decisions.
The scholarships range from $500 to $1,500. Some students will be able to receive an additional $1,000 scholarship.
University officials say leaders are still waiting for federal decisions on financial aid, making it more difficult for families to make decisions on college.
“Students and families are frustrated, and many of them are on the fence about which university they should attend,” said Kristen Salmonson, Ferris State’s dean of Enrollment Services. “We’re proud of the transformative education Ferris State provides. We believe these students are meant to be Bulldogs."
The scholarship increases are available both for students who have yet to apply for the fall 2024 semester and those already accepted to attend this fall.
Students receiving $6,000 President’s Scholarships and $5,000 Provost’s Scholarships will receive a $500 increase. Students earning a $3,500 Dean’s Scholarship will get a $1,000 increase. Those awarded a $1,500 Crimson Scholarship will see a $1,500 increase.
Officials have also made the $1,000 Woodbridge N. Ferris Forward Scholarship available to more students by lowering the required GPA.
“We are investing in the future of our students, but also in the future of our community and state,” Salmonson said. “We know that 92 percent of Ferris State students stay in Michigan, using the skills and education we provide. That makes us all stronger.”
Students who need help with their financial aid can contact the Financial Aid Hotline at 231-591-2110 or email FinAid@Ferris.edu.
