GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - Two former Grand Rapids elementary schools will soon have new owners.
On Monday, school board members approved selling Hillcrest and Shawnee Park to two separate "faith-based" school systems. The two schools were among 10 buildings closed last spring, as part of the district's transformation plan.
"Living Stones Academy" will buy Hillcrest Elementary and plans to move its students in, starting next school year. Grand Rapids Christian Schools will purchase Shawnee Park Elementary relocate its middle school there in the fall of 2015.
Grand Rapids School Superintendent says not all of the buildings closed last year will be sold. Leaders want to make sure the district has room if it needs it.
