GRAND RAPIDS, Mich — After two years on the job, Grand Rapids Public Schools and their communications director have agreed to part ways.

Leon Hendrix joined GRPS in 2022, and recently, both he and the district reached a tentative agreement to mutually part ways.

"GRPS would like to thank Mr. Hendrix for his contributions to our district over the past two years. GRPS remains committed to open and transparent communication with our scholars, families, staff, and community.”

A hearing scheduled for Monday has been adjourned.

Hendrix thanked his coworkers and said he wished the district nothing but the best in the future.

"This week, I leave Team GRPS in an official capacity the same way that I came—so grateful to have had the opportunity to serve the community we all love so much," Hendrix said on LinkedIn. "Thank you to all of those who welcomed me as a part of this team for the past two years. Please keep loving our kids and giving them every chance at success. I appreciate all the love, support, and kindness shown to me, especially these last few weeks. I couldn’t be more grateful, and I’ll never stop cheering with you for our GRPS scholars."

Hendrix attended Grand Rapids Montessori and Iroquois Middle School before he moved to Wyoming where he graduated from Lee High School.

Before joining GRPS, he worked in the communications department at Spectrum Health. Many know him from his time working as a news anchor and reporter in West Michigan.
