MECOSTA COUNTY, Mich. — A school district in Mecosta County is closing their schools Tuesday due to severe weather Monday evening.
Morley Stanwood Community Schools announced that they are closing due to power outages caused by the storms.
"Due to power outages caused by tonight's storms and restoration time not expected until the early morning, school will be closed for tomorrow, Tuesday, May 21. Stay safe Mohawks," the district said on their website.
Severe weather Monday evening left tens of thousands without power across the state.
The severe thunderstorms caused scattered damage, including some damage to Morely Stanwood Elementary, according to photos sent in by a viewer.
