GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) -- Every month we're spotlighting a teacher who goes out of their way to make a difference in the lives of their students.
This month's "My Favorite Teacher," is Lynette Moyer at CA Frost Environmental Science Academy. Parent Michelle Dinesen nominated her with this heartfelt email:
"My son was diagnosed in 3rd grade with ADHD and high-functioning Autism. It was a very rough year not only for him and us as his parents, but also for his teacher and staff at school. They did not know how to handle him, or know much about what a diagnosis like that meant. The frustrations led me to fill out applications to go to a different school in hopes of finding better care for my child. But, we liked the school he was in and decided to meet with Mrs. Moyer, who was assigned as his fourth grade teacher. That meeting was like a breath of fresh air. She had ideas that I had not thought of. She really seemed to care about my child before she even met him. Through the year, she was wonderful. To have a teacher who cares so much for an individual student, to meet him where he is and bring out his strengths, is an amazing gift to a parent. Especially for a parent who felt so helpless just the year before. Mrs. Moyer has a radiant smile all the time when you see her at school. She speaks so highly of the kids and is so encouraging.
I was so scared of what would happen in 4th grade because of the difficult year before. It kept me up at night, reading articles about behavioral plans and ways to help students in the classroom. Mrs. Moyer eased all of that for me. She loved my child and showed it over and over again. There was so much more positive things said than negative that year and it was so wonderful to hear. Mrs. Moyer is a gift to all of her students, and even more so to us parents!"
