Summer Reading Celebration takes over Grand Rapids’ Lincoln Park

The 13 Reads: Stop the Summer Slide campaign is designed to get kids and families reading together.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — It was yet another beautiful summer night, perfect for grabbing a cool treat and curling up with a good book.

It was also the perfect night for a Summer Reading Celebration in Grand Rapids’ Lincoln Park. 13 ON YOUR SIDE will be there until at least 8 p.m. tonight.

Families gathered to collect free books for the kids, enjoy a Kona Ice and listen to stories being read by local celebrities.

There were yard games and craft projects, but the real focus was on staving off the summer slide, that loss of reading skills that often comes during the busy summer months.

The 13 Reads: Stop the Summer Slide campaign is designed to get kids and families reading together.

There are two more Summer Reading Celebration events this summer, July 16 at Roosevelt Park and Aug. 13 at Mulick Park.
