Following Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette's warning Wednesday to Family Fitness, dozens of people have posted to WZZM 13's Facebook page sharing their own struggle with the popular West Michigan gym.
But it seems these contract struggles aren't new, having circled back with a viewer that fought with the gym's corporate offices regarding a contract cancelation back in 2013.
David Baughman said his daughter tried to cancel her membership years ago when she left for college, but it took more than six months and a threat of collections before her policy was finally resolved.
Following the incident, Baughman wrote to several news organizations warning that "this [was] another train wreck waiting to happen."
He said his experience with the gym echoes the complaints we are hearing about today: misleading contracts, lack of response from its corporate offices and total communication breakdown.
This year alone, 48 consumers complaints have been filed against them. Another 55 consumer complaints were filed against the gym between 2011 and 2016.
