GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — This summer, Cherry Health is hoping to increase access to vision care with its Mobile Vision Clinic.

The Mobile Vision Clinic will be visiting five Cherry Health locations on a rotating schedule throughout the summer.

“The Cherry Health Mobile Vision Clinic offers eye care services to patients in a new way,” said Dr. Meagan Baker, director of Cherry Health Vision Services. "This is just another way that Cherry Health continues to break down barriers for our patients and community members and expand access for those who might otherwise have difficulties receiving vision care.”

The clinic will be offering complete dilated eye exams and a wide selection of eyeglass frames.

Patients can pick out their frames during their appointment and pick them up at their preferred Cherry Health location when they are ready.

The services are available to anyone in the community and Cherry Health says that Medicaid and most other insurance plans are accepted. A sliding fee payment scale based on income is available for people without insurance.

An interpretation service is also available for people who don't speak English.

The Mobile Vision Unit will be at the following Cherry Health locations on the following days. To schedule an appointment, individuals are encouraged to call the Cherry Health location most convenient for them:

  • Mondays: Wyoming Community Health Center, 2929 Burlingame Ave. SW, Wyoming
    • Phone: (616) 965-8333
  • Tuesdays: Westside Health Center, 669 Stocking Ave. NW, Grand Rapids
    • Phone: (616) 235-1480
  • Wednesdays: Cherry Street Health Center, 550 Cherry St. SE, Grand Rapids
    • Phone: (616) 235-7272
  • Thursdays: alternating locations every other week:
    • Starting June 13: Barry Community Health Center, 200 S Boltwood St., Hastings
      • Phone: (269) 945-4220
    • Starting June 20: Burton Health Center, 2135 Buchanan Ave. SW, Grand Rapids
      • Phone: (616) 247-3638

“During the school year, the mobile vision clinic is used by our traveling school vision program, See to Succeed, providing comprehensive eye exams to students at their schools. We thought it would be great to bring services to Cherry Health locations that currently do not provide vision services over the summer months," Dr. Baker added.
