Spectrum Health honors MLK legacy and addresses equity in health care

Hear Spectrum Health’s Chief Diversity Officer, Ovell Barbee, talk about Spectrum’s plan for the holiday.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Next week, the nation will honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  Spectrum Health has a number of activities lined up for employees and also is encouraging others to learn about the racial disparities in our communities and work toward greater equity.

Hear Spectrum Health’s Chief Diversity Officer, Ovell Barbee, talk about Spectrum’s plan for the holiday.

One of Dr. King’s main messages revolved around health equity, or the inequities in health care for Blacks and other communities of color. That has been highlighted during the pandemic.

Dr. Lisa Lowery from Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital talked about how Spectrum Health is working toward health equity.
