GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Grand Rapids-based BAMF Health is launching a new non-profit foundation with help from Michigan native Kid Rock (Robert Ritchie).
BAMF Health says the non-profit—which is called The Foundation for Medical Advancement and Breakthroughs (FAMB)—is dedicated to advancing the development of novel radiopharmaceuticals and improving patient access to precision medicine.
The health provider credited Kid Rock's "major donation" as part of the reason it was able to launch its new non-profit.
“We are grateful to Kid Rock and the entire Ritchie family for recognizing the world-class care delivered by the team at BAMF Health and now ensuring we’ll be able to conduct groundbreaking research and deliver care to even more people,” says BAMF Health COO Chad Bassett.
Kid Rock's father, William R. Ritchie, was treated at BAMF Health for prostate cancer beginning in 2022. Ritchie died in 2024.
BAMF Health said that Ritchie and his family had "incredibly positive" experiences while he was receiving treatment at their hospital.
“I would like my foundation to be the first one to donate to this incredible foundation in my father’s memory,” said Kid Rock. “We all knew that if the treatments he was receiving at BAMF Health had been around 5-10 years earlier, our father would still be with us. As a family, we hope to spread the word about how BAMF Health is helping change the lives of those with cancer.”
BAMF Health said they founded FMAB on three key initiatives:
- Patient Access – Provide financial assistance to patients struggling with insurance coverage, co-pays, travel expenses, or other barriers to access.
- Education – Offer community education, student training programs, and workforce development opportunities to increase awareness of and advance the field of Theranostics.
- Research –Advance the development and use of radiopharmaceuticals and further precision medicine.
