GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The new Biden Administration is already making a number of changes related to immigration policy.
"There is a lot of positivity and there is a lot of hope which we hadn't seen for the last 4 years and I think that's really important," says Immigration attorney Christian Montesinos.
President Biden has already taken action on immigration this week as he paused deportations for 100 days but according to Immigration attorney Christian Montesinos that doesn't mean dangerous individuals will be allowed to stay in the U.S.
"Individuals that are still suspected of terrorism, of espionage, being a danger to their community or society or have a vast criminal record, those deportations are going forward," says Montesinos.
The new administration has also indicated that preserving DACA is important which will protect the children of undocumented immigrants. Activists say that action is creating goodwill and trust with the Hispanic community.
"They are able to continue to drive and work and purchase housing and open bank accounts and I think overall it's great for our community," says Angie Morales with La Mejor GR.
