SODUS TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A dog that disappeared in Michigan last summer while visiting from Texas has been returned to his grateful owners.
Jennifer Hysell and her husband drove 15 hours from Dallas to be reunited Tuesday with Parker, their beloved pit bull.
Parker ran away in July while Hysell was in Bangor, Michigan, for her father’s funeral.
Hysell searched but eventually had to return to Texas. As months passed, the possibility of him coming home dwindled.
“You always get those worried thoughts, thinking that he would be dead or something, because he’s from Texas, he doesn’t know snow, he doesn’t know cold," Jennifer said.
“I never gave up hope on him," she said. “Like any fur baby mama, I always had that feeling ‘he’s still out there, he’s still alright, he’s still safe.’”
Jennifer was right. In late November, Parker was spotted behind a store in South Haven. Finally, on Dec. 12 around 2:30 a.m., the dog was lured into a kennel and caught.
“He feels so much relief and he’s just trying to make sure mommy and daddy aren’t leaving his side again," she said.
As Jennifer explains, the dog is nicknamed “Parker the Marker,” because he leaves a positive mark on people. In the months without him, it's this unconditional love that got her through.
