1 arrested outside of Trump rally in Walker

The Walker Police Chief Keith Mankel said the person drove around a checkpoint and ignored police orders, leading to a short pursuit.

WALKER, Mich. — A person was arrested outside of Former President Donald Trump's rally in Walker on Friday, according to Walker Police Chief Keith Mankel. 

Mankel said the person drove around a checkpoint and ignored police orders.

When the suspect didn't stop, Mankel said a short pursuit happened. 

According to Mankel, the suspect then pulled into a neighboring business parking lot and was taken into custody without further issue. 

Mankel said there was a comment made about a possible explosive device, however nothing was found. 

No one was injured in the incident and the suspect never made it into the protected area, Mankel said. 

The suspect will be arraigned on Monday in the 59th District Court. The Kent County Prosecutors Office authorized the following charges: 

  • Count 1: False Report or Threat of Terrorism MCL:750.543m
  • Count 2: Explosives-Possession of Bombs with Unlawful Intent MCL:750.210
  • Count 3: Police Officer-Fleeing 3rd degree MCL:750.479
  • Count 4: Resulting/Resisting/Obstruct Police Officer MCL: 750.81
