KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. — A 14-year-old pedestrian died early Friday morning after being hit by a car.
According to the Michigan State Police, the crash happened around 6 a.m. on N. Riverview Drive near Van Buren Street in Cooper Township.
Preliminary investigations at the scene of the crash show two pedestrians were walking in the southbound travel lane of N. Riverview Drive when one of them was hit by a car traveling in the same lane, deputies said.
The victim, a 14-year-old boy from Kalamazoo, was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and died, deputies said.
According to deputies the other pedestrian, a 15-year-old girl from Kalamazoo, was not injured.
Deputies said the driver was a 51-year-old man from Allegan who was uninjured. They said they don't know if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash yet.
Troopers from the MSP Paw Paw post are currently investigating the crash.
