SPRINGFIELD, Michigan — The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office is searching for a man who is reported to have assaulted his younger female relative on Sunday morning.
CCSO said around 6:30 a.m. deputies were conducting a routine foot patrol in the area of N Helmer Road and Lafayette Avenue when an 18-year-old woman came up to them.
Deputies said the woman told them she was assaulted by a 28-year-old male relative in the 100 block of Milton Avenue in Pennfield Township.
According to deputies, the woman was visibly upset and said the man used a firearm in the altercation.
The woman was taken to the Sheriff's Office Pennfield Substation for more questioning.
Deputies said the male relative was still believed to be at the scene with the firearm and had other family members inside the home with him.
CCSO said deputies working patrol went to the residence and set up a perimeter around the house. They were joined by the CCSO Special Response Team (SRT), hostage negotiators, K9 units and Detective Bureau.
CCSO said all of the family members and children in the house were taken to a safe location.
Deputies said the suspect was still believed to be in the home with the firearm, however, SRT searched the home and didn't find him.
CCSO said a person of interest was identified in the incident and deputies are actively searching the area and other locations he's known to frequent.
