Fire in Almena Township leads to two unrelated arrests

According to the sheriff's office, the fire was reported in a camper parked behind a pole barn on the property around 6 a.m.

VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. — Van Buren County Sheriff's Office Deputies and the Paw Paw Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 39k block of Whiskey Run Road in Almena Township early Saturday morning. 

According to the sheriff's office, the fire was reported in a travel trailer/camper parked behind a pole barn on the property around 6 a.m. 

The source of the fire is currently unknown. However, the sheriff's office said the two occupants of the camper left the scene and were found by deputies several miles away. 

The occupants were interviewed and turned over to the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office on unrelated charges. 

The incident is currently under investigation.
