KALAMAZOO, Mich. — While responding to a fire that broke out at a vacant Kalamazoo home, first responders were called to another one nearby. Firefighters are now calling the situation suspicious.

Fire crews were called to a home in the 500 block of Walnut Street around 6:40 a.m. Wednesday. When they arrived, they saw heavy smoke and flames showing.

They immediately began to extinguish the flames and discovered the home was empty. It was brought under control with no injuries within 45 minutes.

About 40 minutes later, while they were concluding work on Walnut Street, firefighters were called to a home in the 100 block of Gladys Court.

There, they discovered another vacant home with visible smoke and flames. This fire was brought under control within 20 minutes with no injuries reported.

Detectives responded to both locations. They believe the fires are related arson cases due to their location and how close together the fires began.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Kalamazoo Public Safety at (269) 488-911 or submit an anonymous tip through Silent Observer at (269) 343-2100.
