MUSKEGON, Michigan — Two people charged with shooting into a Muskegon crowd on Good Friday 2023, killing a six-month-old, are facing a new charge.
Julio Casiano was charged with open murder and lying to a peace officer during a violent crime investigation. Tollie Hatcher was charged with firing shots at state police who were investigating the shooting.
Now, they're both facing another charge for gang involvement, Muskegon County Prosecutor DJ Hilson said.
A third suspect, Treshawn Hatcher, was also charged for tampering with evidence. All three suspects are brothers, investigators said.
Muskegon Police Department said the shooting happened around 1:30 p.m. on April 7 on East Isabella Street.
Casiano allegedly opened fire into the busy neighborhood street with a semiautomatic rifle, striking 6-month-old A'Dourr Malone. She later died at the hospital.
A pickup truck was parked outside the home and was believed to be involved in the shooting. Immediately after shots were fired, the truck left the area with four men inside, police said.
Muskegon Police tried to stop the truck as it fled from police. Officers believed that the fleeing truck contained the shooter.
Michigan State Police and other local police agencies chased the truck for about 20 minutes before they stopped it.
Everyone inside the truck was apprehended. A 17-year-old was charged with fleeing and eluding.
The Muskegon Police then believed the truck was the intended target of the shooting.
The prosecutor's office said anytime someone fires a gun like that it's a "nightmare scenario."
"Once bullets are fired from guns, they don't always go to the intended target," he said after the shooting.
Around 9:20 p.m. after the shooting, detectives were surveilling the 2000 block of 8th Street in Muskegon in connection to the case.
Police said detectives were shot at and their vehicle was hit.
Authorities said three suspects exited the home and surrendered. Three men were arrested, including Casiano and Tollie Hatcher.
Malone's family has a GoFundMe to help her parents.
