OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. — Three children and four adults were injured in a crash Sunday afternoon, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said they responded to a crash on US-31 near Fillmore Street around 2:50 p.m.
The initial investigation, based on observations and witness statements on scene, states two vehicles were traveling southbound on US-31 when they began some type of "road rage" aggressive driving.
Both drivers lost control of their vehicles and left the road, troopers said.
According to deputies one vehicle, a Cadillac sedan, was driven by a 54-year-old man from West Olive and stopped in the center median.
The man and his passenger, a 38-year-old West Olive woman, have minor injuries, officials said.
The other vehicle, a Jeep Grand Cherokee, was driven by a 29-year-old woman from Holland Township and rolled several times across the median before stopping in the northbound lanes of US-31, the investigation stated.
The woman and her passenger, a 30-year-old Holland Township man, suffered minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital, officials said.
There were three children in the Jeep at the time of the crash.
Deputies said a 9-year-old girl and a 10-year-old girl were ejected from the car and suffered life-threatening injuries. The 9-year-old was taken to a local hospital by EMS and the 10-year-old was taken to a local hospital via Aero Med.
A 6-year-old girl suffered injuries as well, and was taken to a local hospital, deputies said.
Northbound US-31 will remain closed until around 6 p.m.
Any witnesses who may have seen the vehicles before the crash or have additional information for investigators are asked to call Ottawa County Central Dispatch at 1-800-249-0911 or Silent Observer at 877-88-SILENT.
